What are Allergies?
Allergies reflect an overreaction of the immune system to substances that typically cause no reaction in most individuals. These substances can trigger sneezing, wheezing, coughing and itching. Allergies are not only bothersome, but may be linked to a variety of common and serious chronic respiratory illnesses (such as sinusitis and asthma). Your provider will take the following into consideration when diagnosing allergies:
Family history with allergies
Type and frequency of symptoms
Location of symptoms (indoors, outdoors)
WITH PROPER MANAGEMENT, TREATMENT AND PATIENT EDUCATION, allergic diseases can be controlled or cured and people with allergies can lead normal, productive, healthier and more enjoyable lives.
